The North State is an outdoor wonderland. What do you want to experience this summer? Will it be an adventure or a physical test? Everyone seems to have a special experience from summers past. And while the memories we make are unique, they are each wonderful in their own right.
On the extreme side of memory-making, Tom Thomas, an anesthesiologist, trekked 420 miles across the wilds of Utah. Tom is the captain of a team that will compete in Primal Quest—an expedition adventure race held in Montana this year, June 21 - July 2.
Maybe your summer memories are of a favorite coach. Jason Kelly, founder of “Add Some Color” teaches children how to be on a team… from life-lessons about teamwork to playing a sport and not being afraid to fail. “Baseball is not life or death. It’s a vehicle they can use to become young men,” says Kelly.
For Mike McFarland, his memories are about learning model building with his grandfather, whose own inspiration came in 1927 when Charles Lindbergh flew the transatlantic. Now Mike is hand building a 12-pound, radio-controlled, 100” wingspan scale model of Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose. He plans to fly it at the Northern California Regional Float Fly event at Lake Red Bluff, June 12-14.
And we can all make new memories this summer with local entertainment favorites: The Mosquito Serenade at Anderson River Park, MarketFest in downtown Redding, the 7th annual Shingletown Star Party and the latest newcomer to Redding, the 2nd Saturday Art Hop.
So, grab a blanket or gear up for a summer full of adventure… because the North State is a great place to make some memories.
